We have OIML Class E2, OIML Class F1, ASTM Class 1, ASTM Class 2, ASTM Class 4 and ASTM Class 6 weights available as singles or as sets.Which calibration weight should you choose?
Your balance should be calibrated with a weight that has a class tolerance greater than the readability of your balance. For example if your balance has a readability of 1mg it should be calibrated with a weight having a known tolerance of .1mg or less.
What are the class differences?
OIML E2: The industry standard. OIML E2 provides the greatest accuracy available. An E2 Class weight can be used as reference standards to calibrate other weights, or for calibrating micro and semi-micro balances with a readability of .001mg or higher.
ASTM Class 1: Appropriate for calibrating analytical balances with readabilities ranging from 0.01mg to 0.1mg.
ASTM Class 2: Appropriate for calibrating high-precision balances with readabilities ranging from 0.001g to 0.01g.
ASTM Class 3: Appropriate for calibrating balances with moderate precision, ranging from 0.01g to 0.1g.
ASTM Class 4: Appropriate for student use and semi-analytical weighing with readability of 1g or lower.
Do I need a certificate for my weights?
This depends upon your needs and requirements. You need to check with your governing agency, quality control department, or product literature. Usually if dealing with ISO-9000 requirements you will need a NIST traceable certificate.
